The Executive Leadership Institute is a nonprofit management certificate program for emerging leaders in the nonprofit human services sector presented by the Alliance for Children and Families in conjunction with the University of Michigan School of Social Work and Ross School of Business. The program—scheduled as two one-week sessions in consecutive years—includes a practicum project completed between years one and two. The Strategies in Nonprofit Management Certificate is a nationally recognized program of six courses designed to prepare potential leaders in the nonprofit world for the challenges they face in today's political and economic climate. Each course requires three days of class in Chicago, followed by a month-long assignment that participants complete at their home locations and email to the instructor. Students must take four core courses and have a choice of two electives. Course topics include Strategy, Identity and the Strategic Plan, Performance Measures for Nonprofits, Essential Financial Tools for Nonprofit Managers, Leadership in Changing Times, Writing and Fundraising: Case Studies and Reports, Improving Board Effectiveness, Developing Effective Programs, Lobbying in Washington: Building Relationships, and New Perspectives in Nonprofit Marketing.
